Volunteer Opportunities

Lichfield Festival of Music is run entirely by volunteers, and we are very grateful to those who offer their time as committee members, in addition to those who help steward on the days of the festival.

We are always on the lookout for new volunteers!

Why volunteer?

Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds; you don’t have to have a background in music. Volunteering with the festival:

  • Supports amateur musicians of all ages and ability levels.
  • Supports music and the arts within the wider community.
  • Provides a focal point each year and an opportunity for amateur musicians to perform.
  • Helps to continue the work of the festival movement in Lichfield, including continuing the legacy of those who started the festival over 45 years ago.

Committee

If you’d like to get involved with running the festival, why not join our committee?

Don’t let that word ‘committee’ put you off!

We meet approximately four times a year (March, May, October and December), and meetings normally take place on a weekday evening in Lichfield (usually 7:30-9:30pm). The committee members are also the charity trustees. We try and spread the work across the different committee roles, and the more people there are, the more that’s possible.

We are always looking to recruit new committee members, and at the moment, would particularly like to hear from those with interest in and experience of the following:

  • Funding, grant applications and sponsorship

Stewards

If the committee isn’t for you, we always value new stewards who help with the running of the festival each November. There are a variety of stewarding roles, including:

  • Welcome desk steward (welcoming people, selling tickets and programmes)
  • Door stewards (ensuring uninterrupted performances, allowing people in and out of the performance spaces)
  • Adjudicator’s stewards (announcing performances, providing support to the adjudicator)
  • Venue managers (overseeing the running of the festival classes)

The minimum commitment is usually a morning or an afternoon (a few hours) on at least one of the festival days each November. In 2024, the festival will take place on Saturdays 9th and 16th November.

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with us, please do get in touch, and we’d be delighted to have an informal chat with you about how you might be able to get involved.
