Lichfield is a beautiful city with much to see and do. A few suggestions are:
- Lichfield Cathedral – the only medieval English cathedral with three spires, a 10 min walk away
- Samuel Johnson’s Birthplace in the Market Square (open on Saturdays)
- Erasmus Darwin House – Erasmus was the grandfather of Charles Darwin and leading 18th century doctor, scientist, botanist, inventor and poet (open on Saturdays)
Also see the Old Guildhall Prison Cells (Market Square), check what’s on at the splendid Garrick Theatre or St Mary’s Hub, or take a short drive to the Staffordshire Regiment Museum, the moving National Memorial Arboretum, or the Roman remains at Wall
Lichfield has become quite a foodie centre too, with some lovely cafés and superb restaurants within easy walking distance, including:
- Hindley’s Bakery, a long established city bakery
- Melbourne, for arguably the best coffee in town
- Bore St bakery, artisan bakery
- Loafers, fresh sandwiches and restaurant
- The Tudor of Lichfield, café and chocolate shop in an iconic Tudor building
- Upstairs, Lichfield’s first Michelin star restaurant (book well in advance!)
- The Larder, quality relaxed Michelin Guide dining

…and a whole host of other places for a snack, a drink, lunch or dinner, including sandwiches, burgers, Mexican, Indian, Thai, Chinese, fast food, several pubs and many coffee shops.
